Jerry Lawson, who for nearly 40 years fronted the legendary a cappella group, The Persuasions, is moving on. The man who led the celebrated quintet---and recorded and toured with numerous artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Liza Minnelli, Joni Mitchell and Frank Zappa---is heading in many new directions.

"I left the Persuasions in order to perform and record the tunes I love which work best with instruments. I'm singing Jazz Standards, traditional Soul music, Rhythm & Blues, Country and many beautiful songs that deserve nothing less than a full orchestra. I really believed that I was putting a cappella behind me. Then a miracle happened in the midst of all my new plans. Just when I thought I was through with a cappella I met 4 guys who I couldn't resist working with. So I have a new a cappella group, Jerry Lawson & Talk of The Town. After 22 albums this is truly the masterpiece of my career! But I will also continue to fulfill my dreams performing & recording with bands and orchestras.

Lawson sang lead on about 90 percent of The Persuasions albums, one of which, "Chirpin'," was hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the top 100 LPs of the 1970s. His broad, warm baritone is regarded by many as one of the better kept secrets in popular music; a cappella being such a niche market. As music writer Rip Rense put it, "By any fair measure, Lawson is really one of the best singers of the last 50 years---up there with Sam Cooke, Brook Benton, Jerry Butler & Nat King Cole."

Lawson is also responsible for the brilliant vocal arrangements on all 22 albums with The Persuasions. The last five of his highly original albums found acclaim from People Magazine to the Los Angeles Times.

After a life spent largely on the road, taking the Brooklyn-born Persuasions all over the globe, Lawson and his wife have settled in Scottsdale, Arizona where he performs periodically..

It's not unusual for Lawson to be dining out and between courses join the musicians and croon awhile. The effect on the audience is invariably stunning. Think: Superman entering a weightlifting contest in street clothes.
